WAITING TIME
I have sat with the prisoners on a stormy day. Cast long glances out the window for signs of weather change. The coffee cup between rough fists, the dinghies pulled far up on the beach. Patiently waiting. Redemption and anticipation when the dinghies disappear again with humming engines in different directions towards the horizon. Soon tiny dots on the endless fjord. Waiting is a word that often appears in my diaries from Greenland. I have been waiting for a glimpse of the humpback whale's black back, for the first mountain acid, for the sun, for the helicopter, for the laundry to dry, for the cry of the raven, for a dinghy ride to town, for bananas in the store, for the mother's ass, for my daughter who playing outside in the midnight sun, on the ice, on the dark, on the words.
My sculptural works can be seen as an expression of the temporality found in nature and in life. They are snapshots. Fragile in material selection and appearance. Changeable. Perishable.
