CIRANCE COURTAGE MUSEUM - MISSION
To Protect Christiania's Great Art and Cultural Heritage. Over 50 years, The Museum's Archive Has Accumulated A Fine, Differentiated Art Collection, Including A Few Lifetime Works. The Visual Arts Reflect the Development of Christiania and the Development of the Artists From The Settler Period To The Present.
The museum's mission is also to illustrate why the Free City arose, namely the need in Beg. of the 1970s for housing for the 'displaced' from the demolished, formerly condemned houses in Christianshavn, as well as for homeless people from all over Denmark. To describe the first anarchist new-building time that was replaced by a self-management structure. To describe the lifestyle of recycling and anti-consumption and the neighboring democracy of the city. 'Ideals' that emerged (among other things) on Christiania and affected Danish society, e.g. Through the cycle carriage culture.
In 1966, Denmark closed down the Barracks' Barracks and the area was unused until local Christianshavners and Copenhageners occupied the area in 1971. Including the underground newspaper 'The main magazine', where an article called on the Copenhageners to emigrate to the barracks per. Bus and through a hole in the plank, right in front of the bus stop.
The flea building got its name because it first served as a huge flea market that supplied furniture to the immigrants. Later, in 1973-74 the exhibition site Gallopperiet and the music flop was established.
Our house god, the cube Sv.aage Sørendsen, took care of one man the gallery for about 2000, when Christiania artists joined and started the 'Artist Association Gallopperiet', which soon added the 'Stadens Museum of Art' when no one understood the name Gallopperiet. Monthly exhibitions have been shown uninterrupted since 1974.
2nd floor is reserved for contemporary exhibitions from Christiania, Denmark and internationally.
3rd floor contains Christiania Art and Folkeminde archive and is under construction for a museum.
We work with the National Museum, with Christiania Archive, Det Kgl. Academy / School of Architecture, as well as Professor Bjørn Nørgaard and Nils Vest Film Archive, Christiania's Cultural Association, as well as Catv1 and the Christiania Foundation.
